Japanese Electronics Industry Sees Decline in 2005
December 23, 2005
The Japanese electronics industry will witness a decline for the first time since 2002 as JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) revised 2005's domestic production forecast from US$179.3 billion to US$161.4 billion due to the inventory adjustment during mid-2004 and mid-2005. Such a slide also implies the weak performance of the Japanese semiconductor industry. Although JEITA has anticipated 2.3% growth in 2006, the projected increase is still lower than that of 2004. The brisk performance of digital consumer electronics, such as flat-panel TVs and car navigation system in 2005 is likely to continue on 2006. Japanese electronics makers are counting on the World Cup and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy for the industry's growth.
